The UNAC Sick Leave Bank was transferred from UAFT to UNAC when the two UA-system unions merged in 2018. During the latest round of UNAC/UA bargaining, the Sick Leave Bank was incorporated into our CBA in article 16.

The UNAC Sick Leave Bank is available for all bargaining unit members who meet Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave requirements and are in need of extended, paid medical leave.

The UNAC Sick Leave Bank may be used for personal medical care or to care for a family member.

UNAC bargaining unit members must first be approved for Family Medical Leave (FML) through UA’s third-party vendor, Unum.

For more information about applying for FML through Unum, please refer to the UA FML web page.

Contact UNAC's Contract Manager for help navigating UA HR, UNUM and FML.

Leave Bank Application

The application for the UNAC Sick Leave Bank is located on the UA Labor and Employee Relations website under ‘forms and guidelines.’ Please contact our Contract Manager for help.

The UNAC Sick Leave Bank is separate from the former "Leave Share" program, which was quietly eliminated in the summer of 2023 by University of Alaska management. The UNAC Sick Leave Bank is now the only way for qualifying employees (UNAC members) to receive paid, extended sick leave.
